The Types of Bets in Roulette

Next to the slots, roulette perhaps is the easiest game to learn and play in the casino.

One only has to learn the procedures of the game and more importantly, the types of bets one can make when playing Roulette.

In fact, forget the procedures. The different types of bets are central in roulette's mechanics and anyone can play Roulette competitively as long as one knows all of the kinds of bets that can be made and the difference of each.

Bets in roulette are divided between two types: inside and outside bets.

Inside bets are bets made when one wants to wager on the numbers in the wheel. They are called 'inside' because they are placed on the inside area of the table where the numbers grid are.

Outside bets on the other hand are on the outer part of the table and are for everything else other than numbers may be they color, odd or even etc.

Let's start with the kinds of inside bets:

Single Number Bets.

Or Straight-Up Bet in some roulette circles, is the most basic among types of bet. One simply chooses a number from one to thirty-six on the roulette betting area.

Having the slimmest odds among the other wager, it has the largest payout. There is a 35 to 1 payout when one's bet wins.

Split Bets

This is betting on the same number with the same chip. This is allowed in roulette as long as the two numbers are beside each other. To split bet, one places the chips to be wagered on the line dividing the chosen pair of numbers. One wins a payout ratio of 17 to 1 if one of the numbers win.

Street Bet

The same as split bet but this time you bet in three consecutive numbers instead of two. Receive a payout with ratio 11 to 1 if one of the three numbers comes up.

Corner Bet

Sometimes called a square bet, it is the same as the previous two, only this time you play with four. To place a corner bet, you put the chips on the line that intersects all four and if you win, you receive a payout ratio of 8 to 1.

Now let us see the types of bets under outside betting:

Even or Odd

In this type of bet, you choose if the number that will come up will either be an odd or an even. Guess right and you will win a payout with a 1 to 1 ratio.

Black or Red

Same as Even or Odd, you only choose between black and red instead of odd and even. It is basically the same as even or odd as they both have the same payout ratio of 1 is to 1.

High-Low/Dozens Bet

These are types of bet wherein one bets on a large group of numbers.

In high-low, the player selects either to bet on low, meaning with numbers 1-18, or on high, with numbers 19-36. Odds here are also 1 is to 1.

Dozens bet on the other hand is betting on an entire column of numbers divided among 1-12, 13-24 and 25-36. The chances of winning here fare slightly better with a payout ratio of 2 is to 1.

As you can see the types of bet under inside and outside betting differ greatly in terms of payout.

Inside betting have less odds but greater payout while outside betting have better chances with lower payout.
